Dell EMC Battles Lenovo, HP For Share In Waning PC Market

Research firms Gartner and IDC showed PC shipments falling for the eighth consecutive quarter this month, but Dell EMC is undeterred by the overall decline of the market.

"We’ve taken 15 consecutive quarters of PC share gain. We feel good about where we are, where the product portfolio is, and what we’re doing,’ said Dell EMC Chief Commercial Officer and President Marius Haas.

Haas said that the PC market belongs to three vendors right now.

’If you just look at the PC market within itself, the top three players are growing, taking share, everyone else is losing. It is HP, Lenovo and us, which is good,’ he said.

’We’re No. 3 today, but we’re growing faster. We think we’ll catch up here very soon,’ he added.

Haas contrasted the PC market with the server market, an area he called a ’$43 billion’ market that he forecast will grow by $11 billion over the next three years, with much of that growth coming in the cloud ecosystem.

’It’s actually a market that is diversifying,’ he said.

’That means that the traditional data center ecosystem is declining, it’s all moving towards that density-optimized web architecture, which also brings with it a very different business model,’ he added.
