Sometimes the screen on a laptop can get cluttered with various applications and windows. Enter gScreen, which is preparing to roll out a dual-screen notebook later this year.
gScreen is an Alaska-based notebook maker that is getting ready to unleash the Spacebook 2009, a notebook with two 15.4-inch screens.
The current specs for the Spacebook reportedly are beefy, which isn't surprising given that gScreen is likely targeting the notebook at users such as graphic designers and others who need extra space and horsepower to be productive.
Right now the Spacebook will be equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz processor. The notebook comes with two sets of 2-GB DDR2 memory, rounding out at 4 GB of RAM. Storage is ample, with 320 GB of spinning hard drive space. Graphics on the dual screens are taken care of by Nvidia GeForce 98000M GT chips with 512 MB of dedicated memory. Users also have the choice of equipping the Spacebook with Nvidia Quadro FX 1700M Graphics.
The dual-screen Spacebook isn't going to be light. Part of the overall weight will come from the 9-cell battery that is currently being used to keep the notebook running.
According to the gScreen blog, the company plans to sell the Spacebook through Amazon.com and will eventually sell through Buy.com and Newegg.com.
Exact pricing for the Spacebook dual-screen notebook is not yet available, but Gordon Stewart, CEO of gScreen, recently told Gizmodo that the company wants to keep the cost at less than $3,000.
The Spacebook from gScreen does not have a firm ship date, but the company hopes to release the dual-screen notebook in the fourth quarter of this year.
