Sony wants to be the vanguard vendor in 3D laptops, and is readying a PC with what Sony is describing as full 3D capabilities for release early next year.

According to CNET, which reported on a Sony 3D laptop prototype being shown off at this week's IFA conference in Berlin, it'll be a Vaio laptop that includes a 3D button for converting 2D images into 3D images. The Vaio will come equipped with active shutter glasses, designed to separate what the left eye and right eye see, the report noted.

Sir Howard Stringer, Sony's chairman, CEO and president, reportedly told attendees at an IFA press conference that the 3D Vaios will arrive in the spring. According to CNET and other reports, Sony was busy at IFA showing off plenty of other 3D or 3D-capable products, as well, and also mentioned that PlayStation 3 and some Blu-ray players will receive firmware upgrades to enable them for 3D.

Sony this week also said it will launch a video and music-streaming service in Europe to compete directly with Apple's iTunes store. It'll be called Qriocity, according to Sony, and launch in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, and be available for Bravia TVs, PlayStation 3 consoles, Blu-ray DVD players and Vaio PCs.
