Panasonic Solutions Unveils Toughbook U1 Ultra

The U1 Ultra comes with a 64-GB solid state hard drive, 2GB of memory, a 1.6-Ghz Intel Atom Processor and Windows 7. Optional features include a 2-megapixel camera, barcode reader, fingerprint reader GPS, and mobile broadband.

Like other Toughbook models, the U1 Ultra's ruggedized design makes it ideal for mobile workers who spend the bulk of their time in supply chain management, public safety and utilities. The U1's magnesium alloy chassis and sealed all weather design keep it well-protected from the elements.

The Ultra U1 is mostly aimed at running legacy mobile device applications and solutions, including tWinrunner for Windows Mobile and Windows CE software, as well as migration to a full Windows OS device. The Toughbook U1 Essential, also designed for mobile workers, is a more basic mobile computing device, whereas the Ultra U1's features include a numeric keypad for warehousing and other applications requiring high-volume quantity input.

Embedded wireless connectivity is available through Bluetooth 2.1 with the option of Gobi2000 mobile broadband technology from Qualcomm. The Toughbook U1 will be available on Verizon, Sprint and AT&T wireless networks.
