Solution Provider Cognizant Chooses Savvis As Cloud Provider

Cognizant, which offers businesses a range of consulting, outsourcing, systems integration, and business processing outsourcing services, said it will take advantage of the global reach and specialized, hosted data center services offered by Savvis to extend its services to its customers via the cloud.

With Savvis as a cloud provider, Cognizant will be able to deliver its remote infrastructure management, testing, business process management and other offerings as a service to clients, said Bill Strain, CTO of IT infrastructure for Cognizant.

“We view Savvis as a clear leader in cloud services, especially for the enterprise,” Strain, said in an interview.

Cognizant said it will use a private version of Savvis Symphony Virtual Private Data Center. Its private cloud and data center services will be delivered from Savvis’ facilities in Washington, D.C., and London.

Other top cloud infrastructure providers in the burgeoning cloud market include Amazon Web Services, Rackspace, Terremark, and CSC.

Based in Teaneck, N.J., Cognizant recorded $6.12 billion in revenue in 2011 and ranked 12 in the CRN VAR 500 list. The company said it has more than 50 delivery centers worldwide and more than 135,000 employees.

St. Louis, Mo.-based Savvis said it has about 2,500 business customers. In April 2011, the third-largest telecommunications company in the U.S., CenturyLink of Monroe, La., announced an agreement to buy Savvis for $2.5 billion.
