Dell has entered into a partnership with engineering firm Mirantis to help businesses and organizations migrate their IT resources to the cloud using Dell’s OpenStack cloud services.

Mirantis, of Mountain View, Calif., with about 200 engineers, will help build cloud services using Dell’s OpenStack-Powered Cloud Solution, which includes the OpenStack cloud operating system, Dell PowerEdge C servers, software and services.

Boris Renski, a co-founder of Mirantis, said in an interview that the company has been serving as a consultant to Dell for cloud services and is now extending the arrangement. “Mirantis offers deployment, migration and training to customize OpenStack deployments,” he said.

Joseph George, director of Product Strategy for Dell Cloud Solutions, said in an e-mail that Mirantis will make it easier for its customers to use cloud services.

“We’re glad Mirantis is part of the Dell Emerging Solutions Ecosystem, providing our customers with custom architecture and design for OpenStack clouds, deployment of custom OpenStack architectures, and OpenStack Integration with existing systems (such as monitoring, billing, security, authentication, and networking),” he said.

Dell has recently ramped up its efforts to build out cloud services.

Last week, it joined the newly formed OpenStack Foundation, and in March it offered partners a Cloud Services and Solutions certification.
