Dell and Morphlabs also used the launch of the new solution to highlight a customer, Media Temple, a Culver City, Calif.-based provider of hosted services that hosts about 1.5 million websites for 125,000 customers, Morphlabs' Damarillo said.
"This is the first time Media Temple has offered a private cloud," he said. "We've industrialized the ability for companies to offer private clouds similar to what AWS [Amazon Web Services] offers. So, customers can go to Media Temple and say they want to rent Helix, and then get provisioned to provide their own services."
For now, Media Temple is the only customer of the mCloud Helix solution, but others are expected, Damarillo said.
"We expect a lot more companies to offer mCloud Helix private clouds as a service," he said. "This is not a beta product. This is a product released with customers already shipping the service."
