Cloud infrastructure provider Rackspace has partnered with RightScale, a cloud management company, to help customers more easily move their IT assets among private, public and hybrid clouds.
The companies said customers will be able to use RightScale's cloud management platform to access Rackspace's OpenStack, open-source offerings, including Cloud Servers, Cloud Databases, Cloud Block Storage and Cloud Networks as well as support for Rackspace's private cloud platform.
"RightScale will support Rackspace's public cloud API and support a variety of Rackspace services," Josh Fraser, senior vice president of sales and business development with RightScale, said in an interview with CRN Friday.

RightScale will provide a "single pane of glass" management platform for Rackspace's public, private or hybrid clouds.
For businesses interested in private clouds, RightScale is supporting a specific OpenStack reference configuration for Rackspace private clouds.
This configuration will make it easier for customers to set up their own private clouds by taking some the complexity out of ensuring the private clouds are properly configured, Fraser said.
"Interest in OpenStack has been off the charts, but there has been fragmentation in terms of how customers are implementing OpenStack because it has been composed with a collection of modules," Fraser said. "RightScale and Rackspace have put together a specific configuration for OpenStack."
