TDS HMS has built a cloud infrastructure based on technology from Cisco, EMC and VMware to offer customers the option of a private, public or hybrid cloud. As such, it has to compete with large cloud services providers like Amazon, TDS HMS' LaForge said.
"I'm not Pollyanna enough to say customers don't have department workloads on Amazon, with or without company approval," he said. "But we built ReliaCloud with compliance and reliability in mind. We work with customers who want predictable capabilities and performance. Elasticity is not so important to our customers."
Having the ability to help move MSN Communications' clients to the cloud with help from TDS HMS is important, said Doug Schuck, president and CEO of MSN Communications, which will continue using that company name in its current markets.
"Our customers are looking for synergistic relationships," Schuck said. "We've been providing infrastructure to support it. Now customers will see we can provide it all under one roof. It's all us."
