Acquia CEO Focuses On Global Growth, Security

Acquia CEO Tom Erickson has the cloud platform company focused in two strategic directions: security and international expansion.

The Boston-based company has grown overall, from 530 to 730 employees by Erickson’s count, but his goal is global presence.

’We’ve expanded globally. We’ve hired senior execs in Asia-Pacific and in Europe to help our customers in those regions,’ the CEO said. ’We opened up our office in Germany just two weeks ago.’

Acquia also has bolstered its security practices. ’We’ve actually more than doubled down; we’ve substantially increased our investment in security,’ Erickson said.

The company hired its first chief security officer, Al Nugent, in July.

’And we’ve been working hard to get different types of certifications. We’ve already had PCI compliance, we’ve added HIPAA compliance, and soon we’ll be adding other major, major security compliance certificates to ensure that you have the safest environments to work from,’ Erickson said.

The CEO counted recognition from Gartner’s Magic Quadrant as another major goal attained over the last year.

’This year we were again the fastest-moving organization in this Magic Quadrant, and we’ve become, clearly, one of the top leaders in this space,’ he said.
