CA Offers Insurance To Security Suite Customers

Customers in all U.S. states except New York are eligible to receive up to $5,000 in identity theft coverage when they buy Internet Security Suite 2007 through a reseller or direct, a CA spokesman said. In addition, up to $1,500 of virus protection coverage is provided for customers who buy Internet Security Suite 2007 or CA's Anti-Virus 2007. Both policies remain in force for one year after the product purchase date.

The identity theft policy covers expenses up to but not exceeding $5,000 for lost wages, legal fees and the correction of credit reporting errors if a user's identity is compromised while running Internet Security Suite 2007. The virus protection policy covers technical support, repair services and hardware replacement if a user's PC or laptop fails because of a virus infection while running the security software, according to CA.

The insurance premiums are prepaid as part of the software purchase price, the CA spokesman said. The policies are provided by Warranty Corporation of America (WaCA), Norcross, Ga. To activate the policies, customers register with WaCA after installing the CA security products.

Versions of Internet Security Suite 2007 installed by home and SOHO VARs via CA's recently launched Onsite PC Protection portal also come with the insurance policies. So solution providers can use the policies as a selling point for the security suite, the CA spokesman said.

The Onsite PC Protection portal was designed to give solution providers an online tool to use on-site at a customer's home or office for downloading and installing CA consumer PC security products, said George Kafkarkou, senior vice president of consumer and SMB sales at CA, Islandia, N.Y. The program officially went live Sept. 5.

Internet Security Suite 2007 costs $49.99 for a single-user license and $69.99 for a three-user license.
