PC builder Lenovo today announced the three winners of its contest for potential participants in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay. Lenovo launched the torchbearer search program in early August with the help of Google to find what it calls "new thinkers" from around the world. The 2008 Torch Relay will be the longest in Olympic history with more cities visited than any past Games. Lenovo is the designer of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch.
The three winners who have been submitted to the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) as torchbearer nominees are:
More than 6,000 essays from around the world were received during the first phase of the global search. In early October, the field was narrowed to 18 finalists who were asked to submit a 30-second video clip demonstrating the most imaginative and innovative way they would participate in the Olympic Torch Relay. The winners were determined by the public, who were asked to visit http://newthinkers.lenovo.com to vote for their favorite "new thinker."

The official torch lighting will take place in Olympia, Greece, in March 2008. The torch will travel to 21 cities in five continents including London, Paris, San Francisco, Canberra, Mumbai, and Nagano, followed by Hong Kong and Macau, before spending 97 days in Mainland China to arrive at its final destination in Beijing on August 8, 2008, marking the start of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
