Axiotron Ships First MacBook Tablet

The Modbook is the first Apple-authorized after-market tablet Mac machine and hits the streets two weeks before Macworld Expo 2008 at which Apple is rumored to be launching its own ultra-portable or tablet PC.

The device combines the Apple MacBook base system with a 13.3'' Wacom digitized pen-sensitive LCD display and ships with Apple's Leopard OS X with Inkwell handwriting recognition, a 2.0 GHz or 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, an iSight camera and a 24x DVD Combo drive or 8X DVD SuperDrive. The Modbook also includes a built-in GPS system. The Modbook has 512 levels of pressure sensitivity and comes with a variety of pens for use by creative professionals.

"The Modbook's recent designation as an Apple-authorized product has allowed us to better meet the needs of our extremely patient customers and we are proud to be able to ship a product that rests the bar for Mac users everywhere," said Andreas Haas, president of Axiotron, El Segundo, Calif., in a statement.
