Apple gave its MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks a boost on Tuesday, launching upgraded models of each with Intel's Core 2 Duo processors and bigger hard drives with more memory.

Both the MacBook and MacBook Pro also now include multi-touch trackpads, first unveiled earlier this year on the ultra-thin MacBook Air which allows users to use gestures, like with the iPhone, to manipulate images and files on the screen. Both also have a built-in iSight video camera, Apple's MagSafe power adapter and built-in 802.11n wireless capabilities.

The MacBook Pro, which the Cupertino, Calif.-based company targets to the creative professional, also got a graphics upgrade with the next generation NVIDIA graphics processor and up to 512 MB of video memory. The MacBook Pro comes in 15.4-inch and 17-inch models and can be configured with up to a 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6 MB of shared L2 cache and up to up to 4GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory and a 300GB hard drive.

Pricing for the MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 and tops out at $2,799 for the standard feature package for the 17-inch model with a 250 GB hard drive.

The updated MacBooks have 13-inch glossy widescreen displays and come in several flavors. The white MacBooks comes in 2.1 GHz and 2.4 GHz models with 120 GB or 160 GB 540 rpm hard drives. The black version comes with a 2.4 GHz processor and a 250 GB 5400 rpm hard drive. The 2.4 GHz models ship with 2 GB of memory that can be upgraded to 4 GB.

The low-end white MacBook starts at $1,099 and the 2.4 GHz black model tops out the MacBook line with the standard model coming in at $1,499.

All Mac laptops ship with Apple's Mac OS X Leopard operating system and Apple's iLife application suite.
