A Bank of America analyst is predicting the 3G iPhone will be a reality by the summer, according to reports.

In a recent research note, Bank of America forecast Apple will produce as many as 8 million 3G iPhones in the third quarter. Apple's current iPhone operates on AT&T's 2.5G network, and many analysts have speculated a faster version was in the works for this year.

They also have speculated Apple would bring the faster iPhone to market around the time of its World Wide Developer Conference, June 9-13.

Updated iPhone software, v 2.0, which brings new features and compatibility with Microsoft's Exchange e-mail, is expected in June, along with the final version of its SDK.

In its most recent earnings call, Apple said it expects to sell 10 million iPhones in 2008, which some analysts said was optimistic.
