HP Set To Launch Storage Virtualization Bundle

The bundle is designed to help end users move their environment away from direct-attached storage to a virtualized solution, said Paul Gottsegen, HP vice president of marketing, industry standard servers, during a World Premiere session at Everything Channel's Midsize Enterprise Summit in Miami.

"We realized quickly that to take advantage of VMware's capabilities, I need all my storage to be external. It just works better," Gottsegen siasd. "LeftHand's software works with VMware to pull DAS into one virtualized storage environment. Now you can open up to the world of virtualization and if you have a site go down, the applications don't go down."

HP purchased LeftHand Networks in October for $360 million.

Gottsegen also offered an energy-savings comparison for replacing older-generation G4 and G5 ProLiant servers with new G6 products. For example, he said the payback for replacing a solution consisting of 21 single-core G4 servers from 2005 with two quad-core G6 servers would be three months. If you're replacing a solution of eight dual-core G5 servers from 2007, payback is achieved in 12 months.

"You can't afford to have old systems lying around. This is a great justification of cost savings," Gottsegen said.

Also during the World Premiere session, Kathy Chou, HP's vice president of worldwide commercial sales, said HP's breadth of solutions, financial offerings and services can help midsize companies become more efficient more quickly.

"In this era of economic uncertainty, it's no longer business as usual. We're here to help you not only survive, but thrive," Chou said.

For example, HP Total Care's portfolio of services software and solutions can help customers manage, protect and grow their business, she said.

"It's not just about available technology, but life-cycle services and things like educating, training, remote support, recycling and so much more. We can provide whole solutions to help you save time and money so you get better business results," Chou said. "Leveraging our financial stability, we can offer zero percent financing offers to get you the technology you need."

Chou told the 300 CIOs gathered for Midsize Enterprise Summit that HP has an army of channel partners ready to help fulfill their needs.

"With our channel capabilities we can ensure the service you need gets integrated into your existing IT infrastructure," she said.
