Nvidia Unveils 3DTV Play Software
Graphics chip designer Nvidia on Thursday released Nvidia 3DTV Play software that will allow users to connect notebooks and PCs with Nvidia's 3D vision technology to 3D HDTVs. The software brings 3D games, photos and Blu-ray to 3D HDTVs. Nvidia 3D Vision technology includes graphics chips, 3D glasses, software, displays and projectors in a single package, as well as full 1080p stereoscopic 3D and HD digital surround sound through HDMI connectors.
3DTV play software is available with new Dell XPS laptops that include Nvidia GeForce 400M GPUs and Nvidia optimus technology as well as home theater PC models from ASROck and Zotac. In addition, Nvidia has said the technology will come bundled with a variety of new systems to be announced in the coming months.
The software will be used by Dell to enhance entertainment features in its news laptops, the company said. "And now with the addition of NVIDIA's 3DTV Play software, we can bring the thrilling 3D experience to an entirely new market by enabling consumers to enjoy life-like, 3D entertainment in the comfort of their living rooms," said Sam Burd, vice president for Dell's Consumer & SMB Product Group, in a statement.
"3D Games, video and photos on a big screen 3D HDTV is an amazing experience," said Phil Eisler, general manager of 3D Vision at NVIDIA, in a statement. "GeForce PCs with 3DTV Play software enable users to play nearly 500 games on a 3D TV. That's far more than any other platform."
PCs have become an increasingly important provider of 3D content as HD TVs require special glasses for 3D viewing and have been associated with health risks. In order for the transition from 3D computers to 3D TVs to occur however, additional consoles for gaming, channels for viewing television, and Blu-Ray technology for watching films must be integrated onto the platform. This is where Nvidia's 3DTV play software would offer a crucial service to 3D enthusiasts.

However, Nvidia has yet to make the pricing available.
