The security vulnerabilities could potentially enable hackers to access sensitive data. Intel insists the issue was not a design flaw. The exploits were made public last week.

"The best thing you can do to make sure your data remains safe is to apply any updates form your operating system, vendor and system manufacturer as soon as possible," he added.

Intel announced on Monday that it will update 90 percent of its processors from the last five years within the next week. The remaining processors will be updated by the end of January.
