Penguin is planning to show its new ARM-based low-power-consumption servers next week at Hadoop World in New York, as well as at next month's Supercomputing Conference (SC12) event, Penguin's Wuischpard said.

Penguin has traditionally been a direct sales-focused vendor, with a focus on the HPC and cloud data center markets. "But as we have evolved, especially with our on-demand business and new designs, we're seeing new interest from the channel."

One of the areas in which Penguin is exploring deeper channel relationships is its Penguin-on-Demand, or POD, offering, through which the company provides its own supercomputers in four data centers around the country as a way to provide HPC as a service, Wuischpard said.

"We are now allowing partners to brand or co-brand this offering," he said. "We provide the back-end support and SLA and share the revenue with customers."
