Cisco Seeks To Solve Major Inhibitors To IoT

Cisco has spent four years crafting its own end-to-end Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in order to better inform its partners and customers about how to overcome the challenges associated with the growing space.

’It’s very difficult – building end-to-end IoT solutions is not easy,’ Cisco Vice President Tony Shakib acknowledged.

’The two biggest inhibitors to IoT taking off is one, security, or lack of knowledge about security,’ he added, ’and then the other one is getting started.’

Shakib said C-level executives attend a lot of Cisco briefing centers about IoT, but they don’t know the first steps in establishing an IoT practice.

’They don’t have a clue, they don’t have a digital plan. They don’t know how to get started,’ he said.

Shakib said through Cisco’s trials and tribulations with building its own end-to-end solutions, the networking leader has discovered common pitfalls and mistakes.

’Now we have a blueprint that solves like, 70 to 80 percent of all those problems,’ he said.

That blueprint allows Cisco partners to focus on end applications and business-specific issues.
