LPI To Support Intel's vPro

LPI, which sells IT network monitoring and remediation software called Managed Workplace, plans to leverage vPro to strengthen its product's ability to remotely control network devices that run Intel chips equipped with vPro, said Peter Sandiford, CEO of Ottawa-based LPI.

VPro is Intel's Active Management Technology that ships with its 965 Express Chipset. It enables out-of-band system control even when the operating system has crashed or has been disengaged, according to Intel.

"This will take us to a whole new level of control at the desktop," Sandiford said.

For example, with LPI's software integrated with vPro, the user of a vPro-enabled PC can turn the unit off, and an MSP using LPI can still take remote control of the PC and run a backup, Sandiford said.

LPI plans to make the vPro capabilities available Sept. 30. Other vendors supporting vPro include Microsoft, Symantec, LANDesk and CA.
