"Bill has a proven track record of successfully launching sales programs that grow the customer base and help turn innovative, emerging companies into industry leaders," said ScanSafe president Roy Tuvey in a statement. In a recent interview with VARBusiness, Tuvey said ScanSafe is looking to aggressively expand its channel program and partner base. It currently has 20 partners in the United States, and is looking to more than double its partner community by year's end.

ScanSafe is a managed Web scanning service that identifies and blocks malicious traffic and content--such as viruses, worms, browser exploits and phishing attacks--in the cloud before it hits a company's network perimeter. According to the company, it's currently scanning more than 5 billion Web requests per month. That, Tuvey said, is one of the company's chief value propositions.

"Having a platform that scales and doesn't have latency when processing 5 billion Web requests is a big plus for us and a big challenge for our competitors to create," he said.

The company, based in San Mateo, Calif., offers its services to solution providers as a commission/referral bases, a hosted service managed by partners or as a private-labeled service offering. Its chief competitors are Websense, Symantec, McAfee and SurfControl. Managed security services is one of the hottest segments in the IT channel. According to the VARBusiness State of the Market survey, more than 44 percent of solution providers are offering managed services and another 21 percent are entering services. Those already in managed services are earning nearly one-quarter of their revenue from managed services. And managed security—which includes monitoring and response, firewall management and malware protection--is the third densest and fastest-growing service offering in the channel, according to the survey.
