HP Adds Cloud Design To Services Arsenal

The HP Cloud Design Service uses a best practices approach to build and deploy cloud-based infrastructures for service providers, enterprises and government agencies, while also guiding a cloud infrastructure that can support private, public or hybrid clouds.

The Cloud Design Service is added to HP's Cloud Consulting Services portfolio, which HP launched last June and includes the HP Cloud Discovery Workshop and the HP Cloud Roadmap Service for clients investigating cloud computing.

The new Cloud Design Service is the next step in the evolution. It will bring clients up to speed on their requirements and existing IT investments and how they can be leveraged in a cloud deployment. HP will create custom cloud infrastructure design blueprints and implementation plans, which include cost estimates, guidelines for deployment, testing, operational management, service lifecycle management, governance and support.

"Organizations of all types are struggling to understand how to build a cloud-specific infrastructure that is safe and effective while meeting their business objectives," Alan Wilson, vice president of HP's Solutions Infrastructure Practice, Technology Services, said in a statement. "HP has the experience to help clients ensure the design and implementation of cloud infrastructure will deliver the expected benefits today and in the future."

While the service is currently performed by HP Technology Services Cloud Consulting experts, HP channel partners can also tap their expertise, said Flynn Maloy, HP Technology Services director of marketing.

"HP channel and strategic partners can bring in HP experts to assist their customers in their move to the cloud," Maloy said. "HP helps customers determine and deploy cloud services as emerging and distinctive components of their business technology ecosystems that provide a new level of business value - whether through delivery, sourcing or enablement."

The HP Cloud Design Service gives service provider clients the ability to offer cloud services using the HP Reference Architecture for Cloud as the framework for all engagements. The reference architecture can accommodate business requirements, technologies, software stacks and cloud services requirements.

Additionally, the new service, according to HP, can speed up delivery time while also mitigating the risks that can arise during implementation. Costs can be reduced by leveraging existing investments, meaning the integration process takes into account HP and third-party products and how they play into the cloud infrastructure design.

"For cloud computing to be successfully implemented in an organization you need to start with strategy at the top - and that means creating a strong business case with ROI," Maloy said. "You need an explicit strategy that informs all stakeholders in the organization toward what it expects as its business outcomes. So the strategy determines the results - the business outcomes."

According to HP, the Cloud Design Service is now available worldwide and is priced based on specific customer requirements.
