Kaseya Launches System Backup, Restore Solution

Kaseya has launched a new disaster recovery solution integrated into its MSP platform. The Kaseya System Backup and Restore (KSBR) module is based on StorageCraft's ShadowProtect product, according to Kaseya.

"There's a very tight programmatic interface between the two products. You log into Kaseya. It looks like a Kaseya product. You control and manage it within Kaseya. If [MSPs] are already using management across several sites and agents are deployed, there's nothing else to do," said Ray Barber, product marketing manager at Kaseya.

KSBR 1.0 can restore an entire system or a specific application within minutes and complements Kaseya's other solutions that offer backup and restore in a less timely and less costly manner, Barber said.

"We've got a product of families [built] around our customers [that are] able to offer disaster recovery, around these products. System Backup and Restore is image based, it takes a complete snapshot of machines," Barber said. "For most service providers, you back up a machine and restore it when something goes wrong. But when you think of business continuity, it's about avoiding a disaster. What things am I doing to ensure I stay up all the time?"

For MSPs, Kaseya Image Deployment makes more sense for customers with file servers. But for servers that utilizes CRM or other applications that have been configured and customized, KSBR is a better choice because it allows the MSP to more quickly replicate the right image, not starting over piece by piece, Barber said.

"If you need to reinstall applications or an OS, that's a lot of work to get a backup up and running before you get the data back in place. KSBR is a snapshot of the whole machine, and you're back up in minutes," he said.

KSBR features include hardware recovery, complete OS and application backup, bootable backups, bare metal restore as well as centralized deployment to any server or workstation across remote locations and automated backup settings through managed profiles and detailed monitoring and reports, according to Kaseya.

KSBR's features have been a request from Kaseya's MSP partners, and the company thought the StorageCraft product was the best fit, Barber said.

"We're continuing down our track of integrating best-of-breed, world-class products back into a single pane of glass. That's what we've been doing for all our products many years now. A big piece is more choice for customers," Barber said. "We've done it with AVG and Kaspersky [Lab]. In the backup world, people are religious about which tool they want to use. [StorageCraft] is a premier name in the marketplace."

Kaseya is planning webinars and other educational programs around the KSBR product.
