Report: Dell Adamo XPS Gets Price, Launch Date

While details on the forthcoming Dell Adamo XPS continue to be scarce, Business Week reports that the new ultrathin notebook will sell for $2,000 and be released on Oct. 22, in conjunction with Microsoft's Windows 7.

Dell declined to comment on the forthcoming Dell Adamo XPS release or price, saying it does not comment on unannounced products or initiatives.

The report also sheds some light on at least one feature that the Dell Adamo XPS potentially will have. According to the report, the notebook will have a heat-sensing strip on the lip. When the strip is swiped by a finger, the Adamo XPS will glow white and the aluminum lid will automatically open.

Dell in September first began its campaign of letting information about the Adamo XPS trickle out, launching a Web site on 9/9/09 to reflect the thickness of the notebook, 9.99 millimeters.

Earlier in October, the Dell Adamo XPS made a public appearance at an event open to the media. The notebook was shown off by a Dell executive for just a few seconds before the executive left the event.

Just last week Dell flashed two new photos of the Adamo XPS to emphasize the thinness of the notebook as well as its offset hinge.

The campaign by Dell to whet the appetite of the public with little bits and pieces of information about the new Adamo XPS is the same tactic the computer maker took with the initial version of the Adamo.

The Adamo line was first introduced by Dell in March as the computer maker's luxury line of notebooks. Like the Adamo XPS, the Dell Adamo line also had a luxury price, at the time of launch costing $1,999.
