Barnes & Noble Gives Buyers A Holiday Present With $100 Nook Online Certificate

The website Consumerist is reporting that the book store "keeps pushing the delivery date for pre-ordered Nooks back" and is sending a $100 gift card to those that preordered the Nook expecting to get it by December 24.

"We had an incredible response from customers like you ordering Nooks and we've been working hard to meet the higher than anticipated demand," the Barnes & Noble coupon sent to those that ordered the Nooks early and won't receive their Nooks in time for Christmas. "Although your shipment has been slightly delayed, we are aiming for your order to leave our warehouse in time for you to receive your Nook by December 24. Knowing that many Nook orders were planned as gifts, we are sending a special Nook Holiday Certificate to the shipping address provided when you placed your Nook order."

Barnes & Noble had reported that it was working on fulfilling the Nook orders placed before Nov. 20, attempting to get them out before December 25.

The delays by Barnes & Noble in shipping the Nook in time for Christmas come with strong demand for rival Amazon's Kindle E-Reader.

Amazon said that November was its best sales month ever for the Kindle and that it's one of the bestselling products across all categories on Amazon.com.

Barnes & Noble isn't the only E reader supplier facing difficulty meeting holiday demand. The Sony Daily Edition Reader was sold out for pre-holiday delivery.

Sony said in November that it couldn't guarantee delivery of the Reader in time for the holidays.
