That's Incredible: New HTC Droid Specs, Date Revealed?

The new HTC Droid Incredible, the next in HTC's rapidly expanding lineup of Android-based handsets, appears to be launching through Verizon on April 29. The official word hasn't arrived yet, but Verizon itself is readying a splash page for the Incredible following a week of leaked specs for the new phone and reports from numerous blogs and tech news sites that April 29 is indeed the kickoff date.

BoyGeniusReport.com was the first to leak a full list of HTC Droid Incredible specifics, and published the list with a Verizon logo. On Wednesday came reports that Verizon had created a splash page for the device, and although the page itself still carries restricted access, several tech blogs, such as Phandroid and Gizmodo, have published screen shots.

According to the leaked spec sheet, the Droid HTC Incredible offers a 3.7-inch, 480 x 800 WVGA OLED touch screen, a virtual keyboard, an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and video capture, integrated Google, Exchange and social networking tools, 8 GB of internal memory, up to 16 GB of optional microSD support, a 1 Ghz Qualcomm snapdragon processor, push Gmail and Exchange capabilities, Bluetooth support and several other features.

Further, it runs on Android 2.1, the latest version of Google's Android mobile OS, and includes an upgraded version of HTC Sense, the customizable phone dashboard first seen on last year's HTC Hero.

If the specs are legitimate, the HTC Droid Incredible wouldn't seem to offer anything especially different from the galaxy of hot new Android phones out there, but it'll certainly help HTC keep pace with Motorola's Droid and Google's own Nexus One (also manufactured by HTC). It will also give Verizon another Android-based phone to promote beyond the now six-month-old Droid and HTC Eris.

Both the Motorola Droid and HTC's Hero were among several Android phones on Everything Channel's list of the 10 Coolest Smartphones of 2009, and the pace of Android smartphone development hasn't exactly cooled off this year.
