Will Storage Bug Mar HTC's EVO 4G Launch?

Early reviews of the EVO 4G have been solid to stellar, and with a healthy buzz heading into Friday's launch, it looks to be a long-awaited victory for Sprint and a major step forward for HTC, which as one of the most visible handset manufacturers making Google Android-based phones, is finally gaining the type of international name recognition many of its competitors enjoy.

But along with those early reviews has come some bad buzz about problems with the EVO 4G's storage card. According to reports, a number of HTC EVO 4G users have received messages of "insufficient file permissions" when they attempt to write files to the EVO 4G's 8 GB microSD card, or have phones that won't read the card at all.

A fix is already on the way, it appears, as one user told Engadget and other reports stated that HTC sent an over-the-air system update to change the software. HTC, it appears, won't let anything disrupt its bold offensive -- especially in the month when Apple is expected to release its latest update to iPhone.

The EVO 4G is available through Sprint's Web site and Sprint retail stores, as well as at Best Buy, Radio Shack and Wal-Mart. It retails for $200 with a two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate. Among other technical highlights, it sports a 4.3-inch touch screen and 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and is enabled for 4G wireless WiMax, as well as includes HTC's HTC Sense interface and Android OS 2.1, with an upgrade to Google's 2.2 version of Android coming soon.
