Dell's Aero Smartphone Released With AT&T Support

Dell and AT&T are rolling out the Dell Aero, Dell's first Google Android-based smart phone.

Linda Logan, senior marketing manager at Dell, in a Dell blog post on Tuesday wrote that the Dell Aero is now available directly from Dell priced at $99.99 with a new two-year AT&T contract, or $299.99 without the contract.

The Dell Aero smartphone features the Google Android operating system as well as applications to let users access Quick Office, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Android Market.

It weighs 3.7 ounces, and includes a 3.5-inch 640x360-pixel capacitive multi-touch display with pinch-to-zoom functions. The screen also includes Corning's "Gorilla Glass" scratch-resistant glass as a cover on the screen.

The Dell Aero has a 5-megapixel camera with an 8x digital zoom, flash, and photo editing features.

Also includes is WiFi and Bluetooth wireless capabilities, 2 GB of on-board user memory with the ability to expand to 32 GBs, a full HTML browser with Adobe Flash Lite, and GPS navigation.

The release of the Aero comes about a week after Dell started shipping its Android-based Streak hybrid smartphone and tablet PC with 5-inch screen.

Dell is only the latest in a string of big-name mobile device vendors to unveil Google Android-based models.

That list includes smartphone vendors HTC, Motorola, and Samsung; e-reader makers Barnes & Nobel and Alex; and a variety of potential tablet PC makers.
