Optimus Prime: LG Serves Up Android With Optimus One, Optimus Chic

The U.K and Europe will get the first crack of the LG Optimus One and Optimus Chic in October and November, respectively, with the U.S. likely to follow as the devices hit 90 countries after their initial European releases.

The LG Optimus One, also known as the the P500, packs in Android 2.2 and comes with a 600 MHz processor to support HSDPA 7.2 3G, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1. The Optimus One offers a 3.2-inch 480x320 pixel touch-screen with a 3 megapixel autofocus camera. The device offers 170 MB of onboard memory and includes a 2 GB microSD card that can be upgraded to 32 GB.

LG said the Optimus One clocks in at 4.4 inches by 2.3 inches by 0.52 inches and weighs 4.5 ounces. It offers 7.5 hours of battery on 3G networks with a 1500mAh battery.

Along with the Optimus One, LG also showcased the Optimus Chic, also known as the E720. Like its partner in crime, the Optimus Chic also leverages Android 2.2 and features a 3.2-inch 480x320 pixel touch-screen. The Chic supports HSDPA 7.2 and HSPA 2.0 data for speedier uploads and downloads. Also like the Optimus One, the Optimus Chic supports 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi.

The Optimus Chic offers slightly less memory than the Optimus One, with 150 MB of internal storage and an included 2 GB microSD card. It supports cards up to 32 GB. Meanwhile, the Optimus Chic, which measures 4.4 inches by 2.2 inches by 0.5 inches and weighs 4.6 ounces, adds a 5 megapixel autofocus camera. The 1250mAh battery is expected to offer about 5.5 hours of talk time.

LG has not yet revealed pricing for the two entry level smartphones, nor has it announced plans for any specific carriers.
