Samsung's New 11.6-Inch Slate Ships In October

tablet-like form factor running Windows 7

Four versions of the Series 7 Slate offer memory and operating system options, but other specifications remain the same across versions. The slate has an 11.6-inch display with 1366 X 768 resolution powered by Intel's Core i5 2467M processor. It weighs 2.06 pounds and boasts up to 7 hours of battery life. Operating system options include Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional, while storage options include 64 GB or 128 GB solid state hard drives.

Samsung believes the slate fills a need for a portable Windows-based product. "The Samsung Series 7 Slate PC was designed for on-the-go users who need a slim, lightweight computer but can't afford to sacrifice true PC functionality," said Scott Ledterman, director of mobile PC marketing at Samsung's enterprise business division, in a statement.

The Series 7 Slate is half-an-inch thick and offers both capacitive multitouch and electromagnetic pen inputs. Samsung's Super Bright Plus Technology brings the brightness to 400 nit on a screen with a viewing angle of 170 degrees. Optional Bluetooth peripherals include a docking station, keyboard and mouse, while the dock supports HDMI for connection to external displays.

The Samsung Series 7 Slate ships on October 2 through both resellers and distribution channels. Prices range from $1,099 to $1,349 depending on configuration, Samsung said.
