Apple iPhone Customers Continue To Complain About Battery Life

Apple acknowledged that there was still a battery problem. "The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices," Apple said in a statement sent to media outlets. "We continue to investigate a few remaining issues."

Apple released Thursday iOS 5.0.1 software that patched several security holes and was also supposed to fix the battery-draining bug. Apple did not disclose technical details on the problem.

On Friday, customers complained on the company's message boards that installing the update sometimes made the problem worse. While the comments reflect some customers are having trouble, they do not provide any indication on the extent of the problem.

One customer claimed to be working for a company that was suspending plans to issue iPhones to employees. "I was just about to embark on deploying 100 iPhone 4S units in our company, but I have just put a halt to it as there is no way that our users will tolerate such poor battery life," said the post.

Apple has had problems with the iPhone before. Last year, the company was criticized for the antenna design in the iPhone 4 that caused the smartphone to drop calls when held in a particular way by users. Dubbed "Antennagate" by then Chief Executive Steve Jobs, Apple fixed the problem by handing out covers for the device that prevented users from touching the problem area.

About two-thirds of Apple's sales come from its iOS devices, which include the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Apple released the iPhone 4S in October.
