Dell Unveils XPS One 27 All-In-One PC

third-generation Ivy Bridge Core processors

According to Dell, the XPS One 27 touts "one of the most vibrant displays" the company has ever offered, with a 2,560 x 1,440 high-definition resolution and an Nvidia GeForce GT 640M graphics card. The size of the PC is offset by its “space-saving” wireless mouse and keyboard, the company said, and is optimized for those consuming or creating digital work, movies, games and photos.

"As part of the reimagining of our entire XPS and Inspiron portfolio, we are likewise reimagining our all-in-ones as stunning systems that are the centerpiece of any room. They deliver a captivating user experience that will inspire our customers to create their best work and consume all the content they love," said Sam Burd, vice president and general manager of product development for Dell.

Dell’s newest PC will go head-to-head with Apple’s iMac all-in-one, which is available in both a 21.5-inch or 27-inch model. Like the XPS One 27, the iMac is optimized for visually intense applications and multimedia creation but runs on an AMD Radeon processor rather than an Nvidia GeForce GPU.

Dell said during its first-quarter earnings announcement last week that the consumer market -- the space at which its XPS line of all-in ones is aimed -- has proved difficult for the company to gain traction in because of budget constraints and consumers turning more toward lower-priced products.

"[That's] an area where we've chosen not to have a lot of participation. We don't see a lot of profit there. We had to make sure we stuck with our strategy,” said Steve Felice, Dell president and COO, in an analyst call following the announcement. "The XPS line grew above 33 percent but it's not big enough yet to [overcome] the shift we're making away from the lower-end products to the higher end."

Apple didn’t specify during its second-quarter earnings announcement in April exactly how many iMac’s it sold in the three-month period. But, it did say that it shipped 4 million Macs overall, a 7 percent increase year-over-year.

In addition to the XPS One 27, Dell lifted the curtain Tuesday on its new Inspiron One 23 and Inspiron One 20 all-in-ones, which are also being aimed at the creative professional market.

The XPS One 27 will be available in the U.S. in the "coming weeks," starting at $1,399. The Inspiron One 23 and Inspiron One 20, also launching shortly, will start at $749 and $529, respectively.
