For the first time, a vendor other than Hewlett-Packard has become a material part of Tech Data's business.

And that vendor is Apple.

In an interview with CRN TV, Tech Data CEO Bob Dutkowsky talked about the importance of Apple, which in the distributor's most recent quarter accounted for 12 percent of Tech Data's business.

"Obviously Apple is a very, very exciting vendor for Tech Data," Dutkowsky said. "They've been performing exceptionally well in our whole footprint around the world."

Dutkowsky noted that Tech Data doesn't sell the iPhone, so its Apple business consists of Mac products and the iPad. Apple's tablet has shown explosive growth, he said, as Tech Data saw more than $1 billion worth of iPads sold last year.

Dutkowsky also talked with CRN TV about his company's StreamOne software initiative and its TDcloud offering. For the full interview, watch the video.
