HP's PC Marketing Chief Departs, Former Security Exec Lands At Vormetric

The turnstiles keep spinning at Hewlett-Packard, as Eric Keshin, senior vice president of marketing and strategy in HP's Printing and Personal Systems division, this week became the latest high profile executive to leave the company.

News of Keshin's departure was first reported Wednesday by Advertising Age, and an HP spokesperson confirmed the move in an email to CRN. "Eric Keshin has left HP to pursue other interests," the spokesperson said in the email. "We are undertaking a formal search for a leader of Printing and Personal Systems Marketing at this time."

Keshin joined HP in March 2011 after spending a dozen years at advertising agency McCann Worldgroup. He was initially hired to oversee marketing for HP's now-defunct Personal Systems group, which merged with HP's Imaging and Printing group in March to form PPS. Keshin reported to Marty Homlish, executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

In one of the few HP news releases in which Keshin is quoted, he praises the design of the Envy Spectre Ultrabook, a high-end, $1,400 model that shipped in February and attracted quite a bit of attention at an off-show floor event at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

"Sleek, midnight black glass on the outside and stark contrast silver glass on the inside make Spectre extraordinary, defying conventional notebook design," Keshin said in a statement at the time. "We chose the Spectre name to evoke mystery, and we packed it with the best in entertainment technology to satisfy those who expect the unexpected."

Meanwhile, Alan Kessler, the former vice president of worldwide sales and service for HP's enterprise security products who left HP in September, is taking the CEO role at encryption vendor Vormetric.

Kessler, who was president and general manager of TippingPoint when HP acquired its parent company 3Com in 2009, previously spent two years at Palm and 16 years at 3Com.

At Vormetric, Kessler will tackle security opportunities in two of the fastest emerging industry segments.

"My goal is to grow the company into a front runner within the data security segment. We will address new high growth use cases including the cloud and big data, expand our share of the federal government space and target key international markets," Kessler said Tuesday in a statement announcing his appointment.
