MaaS360: Companies Struggle To Keep Up With BYOD

Mobility continues to saturate even the most stringent companies and, according to MaaS360 President Joe Pappano, "the top three areas where companies are investing are all related to mobility."

Those areas are mobile device management, creating policies around BYOD, and mobilizing business applications. But in the innovative mobility space, it can be hard for employers to stay up to date with the latest technology.

"Frankly, the markets are moving so much faster that a lot of companies are struggling to keep up," said Pappano.

Sometimes companies fail to realize how much responsibility comes along with implementing BYOD. "Once you've made this commitment to BYOD, you've got to understand what you're setting yourself up for," Pappano said.

"Once you decide to go 'bring your own,' it's guaranteed that whatever’s the latest and greatest thing is going to show up in your office the next day," he said.

Employess also will download the latest operating system immediately, so employers should be knowledgeable about what those updates mean for data security and mobile device management.

Pappano said the MaaS360 platform by Fiberlink is focused primarily on BYOD, but the company is also working on enabling secure remote collaboration on shared content.

And it may be hard for trendy smartphone users to believe, but MaaS360 continues to see robust business in BlackBerry migration, particularly in government, financial services, and health care.
