Intel RealSense Will Disrupt Tablets, Displays, Security

/**/ /**/

Tablets, virtual displays and security authentication are all booming areas of innovative technology, and now Intel looks to topple the proverbial apple cart with its RealSense technology.

Tablets with RealSense technology, like the recently launched Dell Venue 8 7000 Series, incorporate three camera lenses rather than one. The multiple lenses provide depth perception. That means after a picture is taken, Intel RealSense enables users to change the focus and perspective of photos.

The same 3-D technology transforms displays into computers that can recognize hand and head movements. Intel demonstrated its 3-D virtual display with a piano player at CES 2015, but the technology could be leveraged in educational verticals, medical training and graphic design, as well as in many other possible verticals.

Because the technology can recognize such depths, it also serves as an ideal authentication technology. Rather than using a key or a passcode, with Intel RealSense, home security systems can potentially scan a face to simply recognize whether the person is allowed access to the building.
