Marathon Monday: Epson Launches GPS Chip-Enabled Running Watches

Epson launched a line of Runsense GPS running watches that integrate Epson’s GPS chips with a connected mobile app to track running performance. Epson launched the watch line to correspond with this year’s Boston Marathon.

’Epson’s been in the GPS chip manufacturing business for a really long time, as an OEM supplier to products like cell phones that have GPS chips. And just a few years ago we decided to launch our own line of running watches using our own technology,’ said Epson’s Randy Bergstedt.

Epson’s watches first launched in Japan and this will be the first time they will be available stateside. The line features three watches: the 510, the 710 and the 810. Each watch features Smart Stride and GPS sensors, as well as 30 hours of battery life.

The watches sync up to Epson’s Run Connect App and Runsense website, which allows runners to plug workout information directly into the cloud and provides analytical tools, from running route maps to heart rate and calories burned.

The watches range in price from $249.99 to $349.99.
