iRobot has emerged as a leader in the robotics field, from home-cleaning robots to military-outfitted bomb-disposal robots. The robotics solution provider showed off its new uPoint Multi-Robot Control system for tablets to CRNtv with its 510 PackBot.

The MRC system runs an Android-based application, which also can share data from the robot with other authorized users, record video and digital evidence, and connect to the cloud or a secure network.

"What's great about it is we can control all our robots within the defense and security family with one app," said iRobot's James Baussmann.

One of the most popular robots in that family is the 510 PackBot, which is utilized in industrial and military settings. The robot can climb stairs, navigate hallways, and relay video, audio and sensor data in "realtime." It can be used as a smart device.

"You can attach all kinds of sensors to it. It also can help detect and diffuse bombs for the military," Baussmann said.
