Channel Beat: Lenovo Earnings Miss The Mark

Lenovo’s annual net profit grew 1 percent over the last year, missing Wall Street’s forecasts.

Revenue during the year rose 20 percent with increased global PC sales. Lenovo has seen the stiffest competition in its home of China with an increasingly saturated, competitive smartphone market.

According to IDC, smartphone shipment numbers in China dropped for the first time in six years.

Salesforce beat its Wall Street estimates in the first quarter, with revenue up almost 23 percent from this time last year.

Salesforce beat forecasts by $10 million, and is projecting around $1.6 billion in revenue for the second quarter. Salesforce shares jumped 4.7 percent following the earnings announcement. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff gave no indication of whether the company is courting acquisition deals at this time.

And Riverbed technology is shifting its channel strategy from products to services and unveiled a new channel strategy this week.

Riverbed told partners it will work closely with them to build customized and tailored service program offerings around database and professional services.

Under the new program, partners can also obtain demo equipment at an 80 percent discount, compared with the previous 64 percent discount.
