Watch A Drone Expert And HP's CTO Build A Drone In Under 15 Minutes

Shane Wall, CTO at HP, and drone book author Ian Cinnamon took the stage at Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit in Boston to build a drone from scratch in under 15 minutes.

"These are all parts that you can order online, you can go to your local hobby store, or even 3-D print at home," said Cinnamon, who wrote the book "DIY Drones For the Evil Genius."

"All the parts that we're showing you today and putting together, you can do this for yourself for less than about $200," he added. "And if you go back in time five years or 10 years, building something like we're building right now would have cost tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of dollars."

Wall took a personal interest drones years ago and started constructing them in his free time before he crossed paths with Cinnamon. Cinnamon, incoming MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, spent time at Zynga and now serves as Director of Strategy at the Immunity Project.

"One thing I learned is, you can get by with two things in life: duct tape, in case there’s an emergency, and WD-40. For that which doesn't move, but should, you use WD-40," joked Wall.

After a failed first attempt, the 15-minute drone took off in flight over the audience at the Cutler Majestic Theater.

Cinnamon encouraged attendees that many things in tech that seem complicated, like drone assembly, can be easily tackled.

"Whether it’s building a drone, building a program, building really anything – anyone is capable of that and if you enjoy it and you're passionate about it, do what you love to do," he said.
