Dell Exec: We Improved The XPS 13 'By Every Single Measurement'

For the first time in three years, Dell is giving its popular XPS 13 laptop a new form factor.

"We wanted to improve it by every single measurement," said Frank Azor, general manager for the Alienware gaming and XPS businesses at Dell, Round Rock, Texas.

The laptop keeps the same 13.3-inch display size, but "we made [the laptop] smaller. We made it thinner. We removed up to 24 percent of the overall volume of the product. And we made it lighter weight," Azor told CRN.

"Now you'd think we'd have to compromise on performance to do that, or even keep performance flat. But no, we actually increased the performance and thermal profile of the new XPS 13 by 80 percent," he said.

The new XPS 13 uses Intel's eighth-generation Core processors and is highly portable, measuring just 0.46 of an inch thick and weighing 2.67 pounds.

The laptop is being offered with a 4K/UHD (3,840 x 2,160) touch display, as well as with FHD (1,920 x 1,080) touch and non-touch models.

Additionally, for the rose gold XPS 13 model, there is now an "alpine white" design for the palm rest, keyboard, and display bezel. The palm rest is made from woven glass fiber, which was specially developed for the laptop so that it's UV-resistant and stain resistant.

The starting price for the new XPS 13 is $1,000, and the laptop is available now.
