SMC Adds New TigerSwitch For SMBs

The Irvine, Calif.-based networking vendor said the new TigerSwitch SMC6709FL2 switch, unveiled Wednesday, comes with an additional 100 BASE-FX multimode port and is designed to strengthen backbone connections for small and midsize networks. It will be priced at $329.99.

The TigerSwitch is a compact, stand-alone Fast Ethernet switch that features eight auto-MDIX 10BaseT/100 BaseTX ports and one 100 BaseFX MMF port. It can connect to a backbone up to two kilometers away via a 100 BaseFX MMF/SC port, according to SMC.

In addition, the company said the new switch's aggregated bandwidth of up to 2 Gbps and non-blocking switch architecture can handle multimedia applications. The product's advanced feature set includes IEEE 802.1Q VLAN and priority queuing to help with the delivery of data and security.
