SMC Networks Moves Gigabit To Desktop With New Products

Leading the new SMC Gigabit to the Desktop family of products are two new EZ Switch 10/100/1000 Gigabit switches: the five-port SMC8505T and the eight-port SMC8507T. Both are scheduled to be available in July with an MSRP of $134.99 and $194.99, respectively.

Also included in the new product family is the EZ Card 1000 (SMC9452TX), a 32-bit copper Gigabit Ethernet PCI network card, scheduled to be available in July at a list price of $29.99. The new products are designed to help channel partners offer customers--from the SOHO market to the enterprise--high-bandwidth connection at a more affordable price, or about $50 per desktop connection, the Irvine, Calif.-based company said.

Both new SMC EZ Switches feature five or eight auto-MDIX ports backed by an 8K MAC address table and feature FCC Class B and jumbo frame support.

On the desktop, the new EZ Card offers connectivity at 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps and 1000 Mbps and is fully compliant with IEEE standards. The new EZ Card includes advanced features such as TCP and UDP Checksum, flow control, jumbo frame support and 802.3p aimed at ensuring data integrity even under heavy loading.
