Sprint PCS, Lucent Ink $1 Billion Deal

The multiyear, $1 billion deal calls for Lucent, Murray Hill, N.J., to install its Flexent CDMA (code division multiple access) Modular Cell 4.0, other advanced base stations and related software.

Lucent will also provide integration and remote technical support services for Sprint's network upgrade, the companies said in a statement.

Sprint, Overland Park, Kan., said the new equipment provided by Lucent will increase the coverage and capacity of its nationwide 3G1X network and enable Sprint to offer more advanced data services based on CDMA2000 1xEV-DV technology.
