SilverBack 4.0 Needs No VPNs

The new SilverStreak component, included in the Datacenter, Professional and Portable versions of SilverBack Software 4.0,also simplifies installation and helps free up bandwidth to and from a solution provider's network operations center.

Mark Wimmers, CFO of PCI, a network infrastructure solution provider in Portchester, N.Y., liked the range of features in earlier versions of SilverBack Software but wouldn't commit to the vendor until PCI could install the product without using a VPN or reconfiguring firewalls. Wimmers is glad he waited.

"It takes a lot of work to reconfigure all the IP addresses," he said. "It also makes the sales process a lot easier."

Solution providers said SilverBack Software offers many of the same features as more complex solutions such as Hewlett-Packard's OpenView and Computer Associates' Unicenter, but at a fraction of the cost.
