Proteligent Unveils BirdsEye System Monitoring Solution

The solution, named BirdsEye, provides system administrators with critical information about servers, workstations and network devices on their networks.

According to Proteligent CEO Uzair Sattar, the system monitors seven vital signs, among them internal and remote network applications, system logs, network connectivity, and hard disk, memory and CPU usage.

"Our vision is that all SMBs with an IT infrastructure need a system monitoring tool," Sattar said from company headquarters in Sunnyvale, Calif. "A way to view the need for BirdsEye is as an ongoing health check which proactively monitors IT."

Though the system doesn't remedy downtime, it does proactively alert system administrators to problems. Color-coded alerts indicate problems at a glance, allowing system administrators to intervene early and prevent downtime. The product's patented layered Web interface allows quick access to current network status and historic data, according to the company.

When no network managers are on hand to address a problem, a built-in alert system sends e-mail alerts or text messages to pagers and cell phones of key personnel.

Sattar said the product is easy to use and can be set up in less than 15 minutes. It can be programmed to monitor network operations in remote locations, as well. The product works across multiple platforms, including Microsoft Windows, Sun Solaris Unix and Red Hat Linux.

BirdsEye was expected to be available immediately through Proteligent's reseller channel. The product retails for $995, and includes a server, five nodes, and one year of maintenance. Additional licenses can be purchased at $295 for a five-node pack.
