Nortel Expands VoIP Portfolio

For enterprise customers using Nortel's Succession 1000 IP-PBX, the communications networking vendor's new Survivable Remote Gateway (SRG) provides remote workers and branch office employees with access to the same features and applications available to users at the corporate headquarters, according to a company statement.

SRG also enables access to the public switched telephone network for local calls and emergency 911 calls and provides least-cost routing and reduced toll costs through distribution of trunking across a Succession 1000 and SRG WAN.

Nortel, Brampton, Ontario, also unveiled version 3.6 of its Business Communication Manager (BCM), an IP-PBX for the SMB market.

New features available in BCM 3.6 include an enhanced architecture to support call center software, advanced call routing capabilities and added support for Power over Ethernet.
