LifeSize Launches High-Def Videoconferencing System

LifeSize Team, available now through channel partners worldwide, is a fully integrated system that includes a codec, pan/tilt/zoom camera and speakerphone, providing high-definition video and audio.

The company is aiming the new product line at customers that require small conferencing environments, such as those with distributed project teams and work groups that need to collaborate with each other.

LifeSize Team carries a U.S. list price of $7,999, more than 30 percent less than the vendor's flagship LifeSize Room system for conference and board rooms. LifeSize Room is priced at $12,000.

The Austin, Texas-based vendor in July said it had shipped over 1,000 LifeSize Room systems since its release in December, 2005.

LifeSize is targeting a market that solution providers have said is poised to pick up steam. Networking vendors such as Cisco Systems and Hewlett-Packard are tackling the high-definition conferencing market, while traditional video players like Polycom and Tandberg are also entering the space. Earlier this month LifeSize unveiled a partnership with Radvision, another videoconferencing player chasing the high-def market, to build interoperability between their product lines.
