Avnet To Offer Wireless Data Capture Solution For RFID
The solution combines DSI's dcLink software, x86 servers, wireless data capture hardware and underlying infrastructure elements. Also included are software maintenance, hardware warranties, training, implementation and support services.
"ISVs are becoming more and more dominant in the market today based on the need for very good solid applications. However, because of the complexity around the bundling effect of hardware, there are several ISVs who have opted out of the hardware space," said Michael Douglass, vice president of enterprise mobility at Avnet Technology Solutions, Phoenix., Ariz.
DSI's dcLink software automates data capture in warehouse, manufacturing and field service locations. Douglass said that Avnet is looking to expand its solutions portfolio to include software and hardware packages targeted at other vertical industries such as healthcare and manufacturing, as well as mobility solutions. Avnet's bundle includes dcLink software with licenses for up to 10 wireless devices along with services including maintenance, warranties and training.
Douglass said that Avnet and DSI will be launching channel initiatives to support adoption of the solutions.
"Over the past several months there's been a lot of work into really pulling together an ISV initiative to try and bring together strategic hardware resellers and application-specific software providers to create solutions that can be taken to market and can be delivered to the end user," he said. "One primary objective will be to establish a reseller channel on behalf of DSI [with] some of our more strategic hardware partners that are experienced in the areas of warehouse management and data collection."
The distributor will offer partners a percentage of revenue for business referrals, on tiers based on the partner's involvement in the project.
